Obituary

William "Bill" Ratliff, 79, of Union, WV, died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from an extended illness.  Bill was born February 17, 1945, to the late Finley and Bernice Copeland Ratliff.

Bill graduated from Morris Harvey College and spent his career in sales.  For twelve years he and his wife, Theresa, owned Mountain State Carpet.  He retired as a sales representative for Rodenstock Eyewear.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, eating, talking, and making friends.   He relished the time he spent studying and discussing the Bible at the Meeting Place, Broad Run Baptist and Cross River Country Church.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa, daughter Beth (Vince) Thomas of North Myrtle Beach SC, son Rob of Union and sister Jan (Al) Kessler of Charleston WV.  He will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Karen Blackwell of Emmitsburg, MD, Willa (Jackie) Hunter of Alderson and Riviera (John) Drake of Lilburn, GA, nephews, nieces and many friends.

The family wishes to acknowledge the numerous healthcare providers who treated Bill during his illness.

Dr. Jessica Smith-Kelly and the Robert C Byrd Clinic; Blue Ridge Cancer Care-Dr. Matthew Skelton and Liz Hall, PA; Vandalia Health - Charleston Memorial-Dr. Andres Tobar and the Cardio-Pulmonary team; Greenbrier Valley Medical Center- ICU doctors and nurses; Carilion Roanoke Memorial-Pulmonary, Cancer Care and ICU doctors and nurses.

A memorial/celebration of life honoring Bill will be held later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Society, 1454 Melrose Ave, Ste 1-247, Chula Vista, CA 91911.
