GAP MILLS, WV –William Thomas "Bill" Hurt, Jr., age 79, of Gap Mills, WV, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Greenbrier Health Care Center in Lewisburg, WV, after a long illness with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Bill was born October 21, 1941 at Hinton, WV, to the late Thomas and Kathleen Jones Hurt of Rupert, WV. He grew up in Rainelle and Rupert, WV, and after graduating from Rupert High School in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his seven-year tenure, he did tours of duty in Tripoli, Libya, Germany, and Vietnam. He was a member of the South Charleston Fire Department in South Charleston, WV for twenty years. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Anna moved to Monroe County, WV. He served on the Gap Mills Public Service District Commission, served the Monroe County Ministerial Outreach Program, and was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Bill loved the outdoors and singing at the Gap Mills United Methodist Church where he attended.

He is survived by Anna Hurt, his loving wife of 52 years.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
