Obituary

CARY, NC –  Wanza Gaye Harvey Taylor passed peacefully away at age 90 on April 9, 2024, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in Cary, NC. She was born on April 17, 1933, in Union, WV, to the late Coburn A. Harvey and Minnie Pearl Miller Harvey Izon.

Gaye, as she was called by all, was a loving and happy woman with a hearty laugh along with being the best Southern cook. She loved to cook wonderful meals for her family and friends, especially at Thanksgiving. Her Thanksgiving table would be filled, and she always had additional friends and family members present. Gaye lived in Cleveland, Ohio, for close to thirty years, where she worked for the LJ Minor Corp. in food production as quality control manager. She loved her job and all her coworkers. She has often said those were the best years. She retired back to her hometown in Union to help care for her husband, Richard, and mother-in-law, Bea Taylor. She married Richard on May 1, 1952, and was married for 59 years until his passing. She was a long-time member of the Indian Creek Club with so many good neighbors and friends. After her husband passed, she spent some time at her home in Union. Gaye then went to live with her daughter in NC during her later years. She loved WV and loved simple pleasures in just going out on her deck to look at the moon rising over the hills, watch the deer in the back fields, or sitting on her front porch and caring for her flowers. While in NC, she enjoyed going to the Atlantic Beach area with her family and loved just to sit and watch the ocean.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Edward C. Izon of Union, WV; her husband Richard E. Taylor, along with her special mother-in-law, Bea Honaker Taylor; special brother-in-law John P. Taylor; and special friends and neighbors, Edna and Randolph Miller. She is survived by her only child, Katherine Elaine Taylor Moreschi and husband Rafael of Cary, NC. Her two granddaughters in Cary, NC, Emily Moreschi Tardif (Elliot) and Rachel Moreschi. Her two great grandsons, Neil and Levi. Her good friends and neighbors in Union: Kate Miller, Nancy and Dennis Miller, Steve Martin and Eurcell Broyles. Along with her nieces, Eunice Dressler Clark (Dan), Lisa Dressler Garst (Reid), Ashby Garst, Dawn Dressler Winston, Linda Taylor Hughart, Pat Taylor, of Va, Tx & WV.

The family would like to give many thanks to Transitions Life Care of Raleigh NC, who enabled Gaye to make her final journey home. Donations can be made to transitionslifecare.org or to any of your local hospice organizations in her memory.
