GREENVILLE --- Vivian Hedrick Long of Greenville, WV passed away March 1, 2017. She was 94 years old. Born May 9, 1922 at Greenville, West Virginia a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Reed Hedrick.
Vivian lived her entire life in Greenville. She attended Greenville School and served as a RN at the original hospital in Hinton, WV. She also served as a midwife and nurse in her community. She worked alongside her husband at Long's Grocery for over 46 years. She was an active member of Greenville United Methodist Church. Vivian spent her entire life serving her community. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading and caring for her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dewey Otis "Oat" Long Sr. for 49 years and a brother, Clarence "Clark" Hedrick Jr. and a sister, Helen Hedrick Meadows.
She was the devoted mother of Sandra Dowdy and husband, David of Greenville and Dewey "Sonny" Otis, Long Jr and wife, Carol of Christiansburg, VA. She was the grandmother of John Long and wife, Nicole of Radford, VA; Tammy Dunkum and husband, Eric of Chesterfield, VA and Todd Dowdy and wife, Amy of Cool Ridge, WV. She was the great-grandmother of Hannah, Jed, Kate, Beth, Jacob and Ethan. She is also survived by a brother, Kyle Hedrick and wife, Betty of Dry Ridge KY. She was an aunt, cousin and friend of many in her community. Her closest friends were Aldene Humphries of Peterstown, WV; Mary Donathan of Huntington, WV; and Lucille Foster of Greenville.
Funeral Services will be held 2pm. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Greenville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne Hedrick and the Rev. Carl Mouser officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
