Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Gay Ratz Wickline, 83, of Wayside, went to her Heavenly home Saturday, June 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 29, 1941, in Rainelle, WV, she was the only daughter of the late Steve Ratz and Virginia Othello Rhodes Ratz.

After graduating from Logan High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band, Ginny continued her education and marching band participation at Concord University. An excellent student, she earned a degree in both education and social work.

Ginny began her career as a teacher but, ultimately found herself working with children and families, through her position with the Department of Health and Human Services. She dedicated many years and countless hours to the welfare of children, which continued after her retirement.

Ginny took such joy in teaching children about the Lord! She was a Sunday school teacher at Beech Run Baptist Church and served as the youth group leader and Awana teacher at First Baptist Church of Hinton. She was also a member of Wayside Methodist Church.

Not only was she active in her church, but she was also a member of several social groups, as well. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Wednesday Cut ups and the Mountain Heritage Quilters Guild of Southern West Virginia, of which she was a founding member in 1992. An accomplished quilter, she won numerous awards at the West Virginia State Fair for her work.

Not one to sit still for too long, Ginny loved to travel. She particularly loved to take bus tour trips and went on many adventures and made lifelong friends along the way.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her previous husband, Wayne Meador and a brother, Stevie Ratz.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, and best friend, Larry Wickline; her daughter, Cheri Hughes and husband Jessie; grandsons, Brian Martin and wife Codi and Dr. Andrew Martin and fiancé Brittany Dillion; great-grandchildren, Haley Couch and husband Garrett and Lucas Martin; brother, Mike and wife Carol; step-daughter, Shannon Asbury; step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Hayleigh Cox; and step-great-grandchildren, Jaxon Buchanan, Lucas Miller and Logan Cox.

A very special thank you from her family to her loving caretakers, Jhanna Lively and Missy Cayton, who are true blessings.
