LINDSIDE, WV---Velma Christine Johnson, age 70 of Lindside, WV passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Born August 6, 1944 at Flat Mountain, she was the daughter of the late O.C. and Mamie Carper Bradley. Mrs. Johnson was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly and was very proud of them all, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Assurance Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and quilting. She also enjoyed working part-time at the Creekside Resort with her daughter and granddaughter.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Cleveland, Luther, and Charlie Bradley; and two sisters, Catherine Sams and Mary Bradley.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Larry Johnson of Lindside, WV; three sons, Wade Brooks and wife Teresa of Greenville, WV, Stephen Brooks and companion Lisa Cash of Radford, VA, Randy Brooks and companion Sandy Breeden of Glasgow, VA; One daughter, Cindy Johnson Trent of Lindside, WV; Special nephew–son, Rick Frazier and wife Connie of Greenville, WV; Five brothers, Eugene Bradley and wife Francis of Gathersburg, MD, Robert Bradley and wife Charlotte of Ronceverte, WV, Austin Bradley of Wayside, WV, Marion Bradley and wife Betty of Pickaway, WV, and Joe Bradley and wife Barbara of Alderson, WV; one sister, Marie Erskine and husband Kester of Caldwell, WV; seven grandchildren, Eric Brooks of Gap Mills, WV, Randall Brooks of Gaffney, SC, Tonya Dolan of Union, WV, Hannah Brooks of Lexington, VA, Matthew Brooks of Greenville, WV, Shannon Johnson Trent of Lindside, WV, and Sami and Christy Frazier of Greenville, WV; Special friend, Iris Smith of La Plata, MD; several great-grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Bobby Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Keaton Cemetery, Greenville, WV.
Friends may call Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Roger Walker, Dale Bradley, Gerald Erskine, Mike Johnson, Wayne Johnson, and David Johnson will serve as Pallbearers.
