Obituary

SECOND CREEK, WV --- Thelma "Sissy" Mae Wilson Dunbar, age 83, of Second Creek, WV, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023 at Greenbrier Medical Center in Ronceverte, WV. Born November 6, 1939 in Sinks Grove, WV, she was the daughter of the late Les Wilson and Bessie Burns Bland. Thelma worked many jobs, with her last one being a foster grandparent for the Pre-K class at Mountain View Elementary School. For the last 13 years she did her favorite thing, which was being an awesome grandma, great-grandma, and great-great grandma. Her grandkids were her world. Thelma was a lifelong member of Hillsdale Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alta Wilson, James Wilson, and Wallace Willson. Survived by her husband of 68 years, Alfris Dunbar of Second Creek, WV; her siblings, Howard Wilson of Ronceverte, Forest Wilson of Medow Bridge, WV, Shirley Bland of Ronceverte, WV, Virginia Dunbar of Lewisburg, WV, JoAnn Bostic of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and Carol Hagar of Ronceverte, WV. One son, Charles Dunbar of Second Creek, WV; three daughters, Anita (Ralph JR) Wickline of Gap Mills, WV, Kay (Danny) King of Second Creek, WV, and Karen (Lonnie) Hoke of Gap Mills, WV; Grandkids, Jessica (Louie) Handy of Second Creek, WV, Tina (Marty) Williams of Wayside, WV, April (Eddie) Smith of Pickaway, WV, Leslie Wickline of Gap Mills, WV, Johnathan Hoke of Second Creek, WV, and Crystal Hoke of Gap Mills, WV; Great-grandkids, Chelsea (Chris) Pence of Second Creek, WV, Kaycee (Kyle) McClung of Lewisburg, WV, McKayla (Seth) Comer of Lindside, WV, Maddi (Wesley) Blair of Crawley, WV, Daniel (Katie) smith of Lewisburg, WV, Carson Handy of Second Creek, WV, Jasmine (Austin) Bennett of Ronceverte, WV, Kendra White of Wayside, WV, Eyle Grimmett of Gap Mills, WV, Olivia, Benjamin, Michael Chase, and Connor Smith of Pickaway, WV, Great-great grandkids, Berklee and Kyler Comer of Lindside, WV, Axel Smith of Lewisburg, WV, Kanaan Redden of Crawley, WV, and Ross McClung of Lewisburg, WV.

Thelma was a simple woman who loved God, her family, and friends. She enjoyed cooking, helping others, and spending time with her family. She loved going to church and devoted her time to serving the Lord. She was a very humble woman who always sought to help others in any way she could. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastors David and D.J. Deskins officiating. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery at Hollywood, WV. The Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Austin Bennett, Daniel Smith, Benjamin Smith, Michael Smith, Seth Comer, and Leslie Wickline will serve as Pallbearers. Eddie Smith and Kenny Eggleston will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
