Obituary

UNION, WV --- Teresa "Joy" Kubes age 68 passed away on August 20 th ; peacefully and surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joy was born in Alleghany County, Virginia to Betty "Geraldine" (Wickline) and Ralph E. "Ada" Simms in 1954. She was very ill as an infant and was adopted by her Great-Aunt and Uncle, Eva and W.C. Morgan of Covington, Virginia, where she was raised with her adoptive family of three older siblings until graduating high school in 1972. Joy reconnected with her three biological siblings Sharon "Gayle", Dale and Ralph early in her childhood; however, it wasn't until her adulthood that she was able to form a closer bond that she was forever grateful for.

After graduating from High School, she attended Elizabeth Brant School of Business in Staunton, VA. Where she served as the reporter for the Future Secretaries Association and obtained her Clerk-Typist Diploma upon graduating in 1974.  Joy loved to work, and developed into a very detailed and organized office manager for multiple high-end construction companies throughout her adult life.

Joy was the loving mother of two daughters, Jenny and Melissa, who have blessed her with 6 grandchildren. Grandma Joy was known for her fabulous French toast, soul-warming chicken and dumpling soup, and was an overall amazing cook. She always made sure you took seconds and thirds. Christmas time in her home was always magical. She would spend countless hours decorating and getting everyone everything that they needed.

In 1991, Joy married the love of her life, Roger Kubes. Together they shared their passion for life with their children and grandchildren. They spent their time together building beautiful landscapes everywhere they lived, along with golfing, hunting and horses. Roger built her the barn of her dreams when they lived in Brighton, Colorado. Joy took pride in making a beautiful home and environment for both her family and animals. Joy was known for her love of all animals, and all throughout her life she would rescue and help sick and injured animals of all types.

Joy's passion for horses and rodeo spilled over into her family. Some of the best memories were spent around the event of rodeo and showing horses at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. She always had an eye for all the pretty horses. Along with her passion for horses, her other favorite pastimes were camping and boating. Numerous memories were made on the water, teaching her family to water ski and tossing them off of innertubes. She was always full of life and adventure. She took pride in showing her family that nothing could stand in her way if she wanted to accomplish something, and she would do it with a smirk on her face.

Joy was very loving, caring and generous to all that knew her. She was hardworking, loyal and devoted to her family and friends. To say she will be greatly missed is a gross understatement, she will leave a void that only she could fill.

Joy was survived by her husband Roger, daughters Jenny (Dave) Ewing of Roanoke, VA. and Melissa (Greg Katen) Leibnitz of Bayard, Nebraska. Grandchildren Ryley, Cole, Maija, Morgan, Paige and CJ. Siblings Sharon "Gayle" (Frank) Simms Legg, Dale (Tina) Simms and Ralph (Angela) Simms, Dreama (Gary) Mays and Buck (Beverly) Morgan. Along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her biological parents, adoptive parents and brother Jim Morgan.

A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date per her request.
