Obituary

RICH CREEK, VA --- Sylvia Pearl Harmon Fleener Smith, age 71, of Rich Creek, VA, formerly of Union, WV, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to watch over those she left behind to celebrate this Heavenly reunion on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at her residence. She passed peacefully in the presence of family and loved ones following an extended illness. She was born November 13, 1946 at Pigg River, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis W. and Marie Tucker Harmon; ex-husband, Forrest and infant son, Delbert Smith; two brothers, Calvin and Dalford Harmon.
Sylvia was a Doctor of Theology and an ordained minister. Her life reflects a commitment of un-selfish service to others. Because of her philanthropic work in the arts, she was awarded the Tennessee and Kentucky Colonel Aide De Camp. She was an author, an accomplished poet, and song writer. She will be revered and missed by many who loved her.
She is survived by her son, Carl Michael Smith of Lewisburg, TN; foster daughter, Diane Higgs of Rich Creek, VA; former husband, long-time business partner, and companion of 35 years, Bill Fleener of Rich Creek, VA; three sisters, Nancy and Ray Baugh of Crab Orchard, KY, Doris and David Bowers, Jean Klimara and Brenda Cecario all of Covington, VA; one brother, O. W. Harmon, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and admirers.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the St. Johns United Methodist Church, Union, WV, with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in Indian Creek Community Church Cemetery (Located at St. Johns United Methodist Church) Union, WV. Friends may call Friday, September 28, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.
