Obituary

GAP MILLS, WV--- Steve Capaldo, age 74 of Gap Mills, WV passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born December 26, 1939 at Anjean, WV he was the son of the late Fred and Flora Cole Capaldo. Steve graduated Gap Mills High School in 1958 and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Missile Command Unit. He was a retired inspector for the West Virginia Department of Highways. Following his retirement he worked for 11 years with Pentree Incorporated. Steve was a proud member of the Monroe Lodge #77 AF&AM. He was also a member of the Beni Kedem Shriners and the Monroe and Greenbrier Shrine Clubs. Steve had served on the Democratic Executive Committee and was awarded "Democrat of the year" for Monroe County two times.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tara Lynn Capaldo; three brothers, Pete, Frank, and Billy Capaldo; and one sister, Mary Capaldo.
Survivors include his wife Billie Stafford Capaldo of the home; three sons, Stephen Capaldo and wife Jamie of Roanoke, VA; Scott Coleman and wife Laura of Kearneysville,WV, Ander Taylor and wife Tina of Gap Mills, WV; one daughter, Debra Bassham and husband Mark of Abingdon, VA; one brother, Basil Capaldo and wife Joy of Caldwell, WV; three sisters, Nellie Capaldo of Zenith, WV, Madeline Highlander of Danese, WV, and Elizabeth Martin and husband Gene of Clintonville, WV; Several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honoring Steve's wishes he will be cremated. At this time the family is not planning any type of services. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association 162 Court Street Charleston, WV 25301.
