Obituary

ALDERSON, WV --- Ret. Staff Sgt. Silas Ray Steele, age 84 of Alderson, WV passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Peyton Hospice House at Fairlea, WV following a long illness. Born January 4, 1931 in Monroe County, WV he was the son of the late Silas and Lottie Massey Steele. Mr. Steele served our country proudly in the U.S. Army and retired as Staff Sergeant following a 20 year career, having served in the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Morgan Steele; his second wife, Dorothy Jolly Steele; one brother, Robert Steele; two sisters, Emma Rose Morgan and Sylvia Steele; two step-sons, Phillip and Rick Jolly; one step-grandson, Michael Vincent. Survivors include, Companion, Ella Weikle of Alderson, WV; one daughter, Kathy Ray and husband Jim of Arbovale, WV; two brothers, Curtis Melvin Steele and wife Dixie of Fayetteville, NC and Johnny Steele and wife Lynnae of Bridgeview, IL; two sisters, Ellen Crook and husband Ed of Blountville, TN and Judy Brown and husband Royce of Hinton, WV; Friend, Billy Forren and wife Dreama of Alderson, WV; three step-sons, Freddie Jolly and wife Sandy, William Jolly and wife Sheila, and Danny Jolly and wife Carol all of Glasgow, KY; three step-daughters, Carolyn Vincent and husband Dwight of Oakland, KY, Linda Lyle and husband Jerry of Glasgow, KY, and Donna Wilkinson of Glasgow, KY; one grandson, Jason Ray and wife Susan of Arbovale, WV; one granddaughter, Karen Boyer and husband Bobby of McLeansville, NC; and two great-grandchildren Madeline and Brayden Ray.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday January 4, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Fort Springs, WV where the WV Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call 1:00 p.m. until service time Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Cemetery.
