UNION, WV --- Ruby "Lanelle" Vandegrift, age 76, of Union, WV passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, VA. Born April 27, 1943 at Hollywood, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Cronji and Ruby Nicholas Burns. Lanelle had worked for several years at the town's local grocery store in Union when it was named B & W and also Ashley's IGA. She loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading her books and raising her Yorkies. She was a member of the Bruffey's Memorial Church at Hollywood, WV.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Vandegrift; sisters, Willie Gray Ratliff and Betty Bradley; nephews, Junior Bradley and Tony Burns, and brother-in-law, Harold Ratliff. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James Vandegrift of Union, WV; one brother, John Burns and wife Sherry of Sinks Grove, WV; three sisters, Barbara Weikle of Union, WV, Lenora Wilson of Sinks Grove, WV, Ella "Sue" Davis of Hollywood, WV, daughter-in-law, Kathy Hutchins of Gap Mills, WV, and one grandson, Richard Vandegrift of Roanoke, VA.

Due to the regulations associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic, and out of love and respect for extended family and friends, a private service for only the immediate family will be held Friday April 3, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. Public graveside services will follow, with social distancing, and will be held at the Fairview Cemetery at Keenan.
