Obituary

SINKS GROVE, WV – Rodney Darrell Skinner, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at his home in Sinks Grove, WV. Born August 21, 1941, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Rev. Albert K. “Pete” Skinner and Viola Jenkins Skinner. Rodney was a member of the Union Church of God where he enjoyed playing bass guitar in church. He retired as a Bridge Maintenance Worker for the WV Department of Highways after 27 years. He loved hunting, gardening, and was an avid reader. He was affectionately known as “Poppy” by his family, whom he loved dearly, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Childers; son-in-law, Charles Wiseman; brothers-in-law, Delmas Waid, Keith Childers, and Bill Arbogast; and sister-in-law, Loma Skinner.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 62 years, Mary C. Gill Skinner; son, Richard Skinner and wife Kimberly of Organ Cave, WV; daughter, Cathy Wiseman of Gap Mills, WV; grandchildren, Lori Belisle and husband Colby of Gap Mills, Austin Wiseman of Gap Mills, Heather Wiseman of Gap Mills, Lucas Skinner and fiancé Lindsey of Union, Lane Skinner and girlfriend Brianna of Pickaway, and Kristen Geary and husband Mark of Mt. Nebo; great grandchildren, Oakley, Rowan, Chase, Avalynn, and Mark III; brother, Keith Skinner of Junior, WV; sisters, Janet Arbogast of Kingwood, WV, and Joan Waid of White Sulphur Springs, WV; special friend, Todd Belcher; and several nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
