Obituary

UNION, WV – Robert Reed Kirk, 93, of Union, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, surrounded by his two daughters and beloved grandson, Kirk.

Born on September 14, 1931, in Dorothy, WV, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Ica Kirk. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, working on F-86 Sabres. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo (Raymond) Kirk—"the most patient woman"—who remained a faithful and forgiving partner for 59 years until her passing in 2017.

Together, Bob and Betty raised two daughters in Parkersburg and Pratt, WV, before settling in Union in 1973. Bob wore many hats over the years, but his favorite roles were as a game warden with the Department of Natural Resources and later as a golf starter at the Greenbrier Resort—where, as he liked to say, he got paid to play golf.

An avid fisherman, Bob found joy on the waters of Lake Moomaw and just about any body of water he could find. He was happiest on his boat, fishing rod in hand. He was also famous for his spaghetti and meatballs, though equally notorious for cheating at poker—a skill he passed down to his grandchildren with pride.

Bob is survived by his daughter Julie Spitz of West Virginia; his daughter Stacy Naizer and her husband Joe of Georgia; grandchildren Kirk Naizer and wife Jennifer of Georgia, Aaron Spitz of Ohio, and Cleo Holland and husband Tyler of Georgia; and three great-grandsons: Luke Holland, William Spitz, and Jackson Naizer. Also cherished is Nicole Duvall, a very special friend and caregiver.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center for their compassionate care. A private family service will be held at a later date.
