Obituary

ALDERSON, WV --- Alma Pearl Butcher McCurdy, 85, of Alderson, WV. passed away Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia following a short illness.
Mrs. McCurdy was born at Alum Bridge, WV on January 22, 1932 a daughter of the late Oral Bryan and Cleo Gay Woofter Butcher and later moved to Alderson.
She a member of the Class of 1949 at Alderson High School, attended college in Parkersburg, a retired employee of the Federal Prison Service, a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, The Alderson Women's Club and a special love was the Triple-Deck Bridge Club of which she had been a member for over 30 years. In 1970 she was the High Lady Shooter in the W. Va. Pistol Championship and a remarkable lady.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son David Dare McCurdy who died in infancy; a brother Eugene Butcher and 3 sisters, Eloise Butcher, Lavon Meredith and Lorestine Knapp.
Surviving is her husband, John C. McCurdy of Alderson; 2 sons, Collins Bryan McCurdy and wife, Doris (Weikle) of Greenville and Robert Edward Lee McCurdy and wife, Elaine R. S. McCurdy of Alderson; 2 grandchildren, Patrick Collins McCurdy and wife, Pam of Marlinton and Emma Hope McCurdy of Madison, Wisc.; and one great grandson, Garrett Collins McCurdy of Marlinton.
In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
