Obituary

Pearl Marie (Staten-Flack) Martin, born November 25, 1939, in Alderson, WV, passed away on June 5, 2026, at Seneca Trail Healthcare Center following a long illness. Pearl loved the Lord and her family more than anything. In her early life she enjoyed working at the sewing factory in New Castle, VA. She enjoyed gospel music, pigs, and the color pink. Before her lengthy stay in long-term healthcare facilities Pearl was a member of the Hope Tabernacle in Union, WV, where she was very active in the women’s ministry showing Christ’s love towards others.

She was preceded in death by many family members including; her parents Everette & Bessie Staten, beloved sisters Thelma Brooks, Louise Bryant, and Betty Hizer, brothers Emory Staten and Richard Staten, infant children Jesse Jr, Loretta Lynn, and Bobby Gene Martin, and a beautiful daughter Sharon Kay Taylor. She is now rejoicing at being reunited with her grandsons Billy Jr., Jason, & Justin Hoke whom she missed dearly here on Earth.

Pearl was hardworking and gave her all in raising her six surviving children: Linda Hoke of Pickaway, Brenda Hoke of Hollywood, Edward Flack (Sherry) of Zenith, Gary Flack (Carolyn) of Sinks Grove, Jesse James Martin (Yvonne) of Hollywood, and Jack Martin (Connie) of Glace. She loved and adored her grandchildren who affectionately call her “Granny”: Michael Taylor, Dr. Andrea Hoke (Caleb Thomas), Brenden Hoke, Ethan and Thomas Martin, Jacob Martin, Cassie McDaniel (Cody), Garnett Withrow, Brandon (Stacy) and Matthew (Jade) Flack. She also had several great-grandchildren to include Brandon, Carley, and Alisha Hoke; Allona and Raylon McDaniel; Michael Taylor; Haley, Abigail and Eli Withrow; Cyera Currence, Steven and Shawn Boswell; Ozlo “Ozzie” Flack; and her “babydoll” Avonlea Pearl Thomas. Her great-great grandchildren include Brayden & Brinley Hoke. There are several other family members and friends that will remember and cherish her infectious laugh. Although she is greatly missed, she is no longer in pain and now resides with her Savior and brand-new knees to walk the streets of gold.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday June 9, 2026, at Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Clayton Cemetery in Pence Springs, WV.
