MARTINSBURG, WV --- On February 7, 2018 at 1:24 PM, we lost a beautiful, loving woman. Ova Pearl Weikle, age 91 of Martinsburg, WV went to meet our Lord Jesus, her beloved husband Lamar Weikle, and her daughter Rebecca. Ova was born December 8, 1926 at Ronceverte, WV. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Etna Parker Weikle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, and four brothers. Besides her five surviving children, Ova is survived by six grandchildren, Carrie Dominguez (Ronald), Dustin Southers, Lori Elizabeth Cappello (Steve), Christopher Bradley (Nicole), Brittany Rubino (fiancée Tyler Kereney), and Lee Rubino; five great-grandchildren, Joseph Cappello, Gianna Cappello, Jack Bradley, Connor Bradley, and her very first great-great grandchild, Robert Matthew Dominguez. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Letsie Walton (Charles-diseased), Shirley Jackson (Harold), and Mayo Weikle(Ruth), as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Just as her husband was a "small-town man", Ova was a "small-town girl" Lamar took her from the mountains of WV to the busy life of Northern Virginia. Ova and Lamar produced six children, in order, Sandy Weikle Bradley (Bill), Marcia Weikle, Lois Southers (Robert), Rebecca (deceased at birth), Audie Lamar Weikle, and Letha Rubino. She will be missed by many but never more than by her children. Their hearts and souls will miss her forever.
Ova was a homemaker and mother first of all. Her children were blessed with a stay-at-home mom who played with them, cared for them through sickness and health. Her house was the house where all the kids wanted to play. She always had food on the stove ready for drop bys and friends. She was a true 1950s mom. Ova helped raise her children to be Christians and to know she always had their backs. She was supportive, calming, and selfless. Her main love was taking care of her family, but she also loved quilting, playing board games, and gardening.
No matter what was going on, Ova always strived to look her best, and enjoyed shopping for bargains to accomplish that goal. She was tickled when people were surprised at her age. She was very active and has been known to get down on the floor to play with her great-grandchildren or sit and color with them. She was like the energizer bunny; she just kept going and going!
Ova was a survivor from the minute she was born. She was born at home and weighed less than 4lbs. She was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the 1960s, lung cancer in 1987, pneumonia and pulmonary embolism in late 2015, massive pulmonary embolism in early 2017, pneumonia 3 times in 2017, and pneumonia twice in 2018. She survived a huge fire that destroyed her rehab facility. We were told that she held the door open for other patients in wheelchairs, and those using walkers to enable them to get out safely.
