Obituary

UNION, WV – Opal Joy Ratliff Ferguson, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Country View Assisted Living Facility in Peterstown, WV, following a long illness.

Joy, as most called her, was born October 8, 1937, on Walnut Grove Farm, Union, WV. A daughter of the late Alfred and Madolyn Bowyer Ratliff. She was a member of the Union Methodist Church where before her illness she had served as Secretary. Joy had retired from the Monroe County Board of Education after many years of service, retiring at the age of 77.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Ferguson; and a beloved sister, Nancy Gray Ratliff.

Left to cherish her memory is a devoted son, Rick Ferguson and wife Kathy; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Scott Mullins of Kendallville, IN; grandson, Jacob and Kendra Ferguson of Peterstown, WV; great granddaughters, Katilin and Madison Mullins, Ashlyn and Lexi Ferguson; great grandson, Brycen Ferguson; sister-in-law, Dorthea Ferguson of Nashville, TN; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV, with Pastors Gene Fullen and Jim Rogers officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the departure time of 10:45AM at Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.
