Obituary

GAP MILLS, WV --- Nancy Thompson Savage Porterfield, age 82, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Greenbrier Manor in Fairlea, WV following a long illness. Born April 27, 1933 at Tazewell County, VA, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth Eileen Moser Thompson. Mrs. Porterfield was a retired Nurse from Dr. Calilung's Office in Narrows, VA. She had also worked in the U.S. Postal Service as Post Master Relief at Waiteville, WV. She was a member of the Nazarene Church at Gap Mills, WV. Mrs. Porterfield was a very Godly lady. She loved her family, church family, and especially loved her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Porterfield; one daughter, Judith Porterfield Hankins; one brother, Bobby Joe Thompson; and one granddaughter, Michelle Sartor; Survivors include, two daughters, Carolyn Neel and husband Ronnie of Gap Mills, WV and Jeannie Clarkson and husband Gerald of Gap Mills, WV; one son, James Savage of Rich Creek, VA; three brothers, Fred Thompson and wife Sue of Pembroke, VA, Bill Thompson of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and Grady Thompson and wife Elva of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Mildred Ratcliff and husband Freddy Ray of Pembroke, VA, Shirley Williams of Christiansburg, VA, and Betty Carter and husband Jim of Pembroke, VA; eleven grandchildren, Michael Neel, Timmy Neel, Derek Neel, Travis Savage, Danny Savage, Amanda Savage, Joy Dunbar, Jeffery Clarkson, George Hankins, Jr., Joe Hankins, and Mark Breckenridge; twenty four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Catherine Ridgeway of Union, WV; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the New Zion Cemetery at Waiteville, WV with Rev. Michael Neel officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the New Zion Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
