BALLARD, WV --- Mildred "Millie" Josephine Mann Spangler, age 99, of Ballard, WV, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV. Born August 14, 1924 in Ballard, WV, she was the daughter of the late Estel Floyd and Mabel Josephine McDaniel Mann. Millie was a 1941 graduate of Peterstown High School. Following her graduation, she went to work as a secretary in the WWII era at the Ashford General Hospital, known as the Greenbrier Hotel today. After raising her family, Millie then went to work as secretary of the West Virginia State Police Union Detachment and worked with the State Police until her retirement from the Princeton Detachment. Millie was a member of the Peterstown Chapter of the Easter Star and was a lifelong member of the Ballard Baptist Church. Millie was a simple lady who loved good music and she enjoyed her family and friends dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Beauford Spangler; five siblings, Sybil Lowry, Harry Mann, Evelyn Shull, Bessie Raines, and Estel Mann, Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Lester of Ballard, WV, and Sue Pelts and husband John of Bluefield, VA; one son, Keith Spangler and wife Donna of Cashmere, WV; grandchildren, Rachel Lester of Ballard, WV, Sydney Pelts of Blacksburg, VA, April Blankenship of Pearisburg, VA, Tracey Spangler of Peterstown, WV, Todd Boroski of Peterstown, WV, and Robin Pack of Ballard, WV, and also four great-grandchildren;  nine nieces, Madeline Craig of Ballard, WV, Bonnie Gunnoe of Peterstown, WV, Rhonda Mann of Princeton, WV, Susie Copeland of Hickory, NC, Anna Jean McCraw of Ballard, WV, Evelyn Dunn of Ballard, WV, Eleanor Miller of Ballard, WV, Brenda Mann of Greenville, WV, and Joyce Dudding of Christiansburg, VA; six nephews, Ronnie Mann of Maxwelton, WV; Captain Ralph Spangler of Peterstown, WV, Benny Spangler of Lewisburg, WV, Jerry Spangler of Peterstown, WV, Ronnie Mann of Peterstown, WV, and Glen Mann of Princeton, WV; and cousin, James Mann of Banbridge, GA.

In keeping with her wishes, Millie chose to donate her body to science to help with research and education in the medical field. A memorial celebration of life service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the First Missionary Baptist Church fellowship hall (Church beside the Dairy Bar) with Pastor Dave Spencer and Pastor Joe Spencer officiating. Immediately following the service, refreshments and desserts will be served.
