December 2, 1956 – April 10, 2025
ALDERSON, WV – Michael Wayne "Mike" Alderson, 68, of Alderson, WV, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at his home following a short illness. Mike was born December 2, 1956, and was the son of the late William Ray "Bill" Alderson and Loretta Mae Dalton Alderson.
Mike attended elementary school and junior high school in Alderson, and graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 1975, where this year will be 50 years since he rode his motorcycle down the hallways of Greenbrier East before graduation. Growing up, he and his brothers were well known for their slight orneriness. Mike excelled in sports during his school years and was a great athlete. He had quick wit and humor and loved playing jokes and pranks. He loved to read, especially westerns by Louis L'Amour, and the humorous articles in Outdoor Life by Pat McManus. Mike was extremely talented and could fix about anything. He had a love for fishing, hunting, and collecting guns and knives. Mike was an amazing heavy equipment operator and spent his life working construction, many of those years working alongside his brothers and his dad.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his only sister, Debbie Sue Alderson.
Survivors include his daughter, Laurel Karnes and husband J.T. of Gap Mills; grandchildren, Alex and Ava Karnes; four brothers, Frankie Alderson and wife Janet of Asbury, Eddie Alderson and wife Cindy, Doug Alderson and wife Amanda, and Joe Alderson, all of Alderson; nephews, Willie Alderson (Sarah) and Joey Alderson (Jessica); nieces, Brittany Miller (Riley) and Savannah Alderson; several great nieces and one great nephew; his loving dog, Bob; best friends Mike and Jeff Ambler; and several cousins from his Dalton and Alderson families.
Laurel would like to express heartfelt love and gratitude to her uncle Eddie, and Mike and Jeff Ambler for always being there for her dad.
Upholding Mike's wishes, he will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Pastor Roger McDaniel officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
