Obituary

UNION, WV --- Mervin F. Weikle, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, was peacefully embraced by the arms of Jesus on February 10, 2022.  The son of Everette and Maude (Knight) Weikle, Mervin was born on April 3 rd 1937.  The third of six children, Mervin grew up in the mountains of Monroe County, enjoying the simplicity and blessings of rural life.  In addition to his parents, Mervin was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann Humphreys and Anges Dixon.  He is survived by one sister, Eva Mae Miller of Union, and two brothers, Elwyn Weikle of Union, and Ronnie Weikle of Ballard.  Although Mervin never had children, he was a father-figure to many, including his 13 nieces and nephews and his great nieces and nephews.

Mervin loved the land and spent his life tending the family farm that he so cherished.  Mervin also worked side-by-side with his life-long friend, Richard Reece of Reece's Pump Service. Mervin served his Lord faithfully at Rock Camp Baptist Church.  He loved to attend church and fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ.  His personal relationship with Christ was also demonstrated in the love and compassion that he had for his family and friends.  Mervin freely gave his time and money to anyone in need, offering his love, without expecting anything in return.

Mervin enjoyed a simple life, embracing and appreciating the blessings that God sent him, including his 200-year-old farmhouse nestled in his beloved hills, and his loyal dog Bosco. He spent many hours talking, laughing, and reminiscing with his very dear friend, C.L. Reece. People traveled many miles to sit and converse with Mervin on his front porch, enjoying the majestic views and listening to stories from his childhood.  Mervin's wisdom extended beyond formal education.  People often sought his advice because he truly understood what was important in life.  He never chased riches or prestige but understood the value of modest country living.

To know Mervin was to love him.   Those fortunate enough to cross his path were blessed by his pure heart, good nature, and kind spirit.  His passing will leave a void in many lives, which is a testament to the powerful way that he touched others.  We find comfort in knowing Mervin is in his eternal home and has complete peace in the arms of our Savior.
