Sinks Grove – Melvin W. McDowell, 91, of Sinks Grove, WV passed away February 17, 2016, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV following a short illness.
He was born at Hollywood, WV, October 29, 1924 a son of the late Walter H. and Sarah Wavie Hoke McDowell.
He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Army, and was a retired employee of General Motors.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Rookstool McDowell.
Surviving are a daughter, Mavis Street and her husband, Roger of Lewisburg, Tenn.; 2 sons, John McDowell of Sinks Grove and Jack McDowell of Lake Orion, Mich.; 1 brother Billy McDowell and his wife Maggie of Miami, Fla.; 3 grandchildren, Cody Street, Jace and Arielle McDowell; 4 great granddaughters.
Funeral Service will be held 11 am., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with Rev. Don Trent officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 – 8 pm. Friday, February 19, 2016.
Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery at Sinks Grove, WV.
In lieu of flowers the family request that Memorial Donations be made to the Union Rescue Squad at P. O. Box 78 Union, WV 24983.
West Virginia Honor Guard will provide military honors.
