Obituary

Leland E. (Bud) Coursey, Jr 68, of Lewisburg, WV passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.

He was born in Logan WV on August 27, 1945, son of the late Leland Coursey, Sr and Rachel Baisden Coursey. The family moved to Millboro Springs, VA when he was two and Bud grew up and graduated from school there.

Bud was a retired truck driver who had worked for the State of VA as well as several other trucking companies. He loved "trucking". He married his wife Violet, February 5, 1970 and resided at Sweet Springs, WV until their move to Lewisburg in October 2008. He was a lover of Bluegrass and Gospel music and knew many of the famous people in the industry personally including Ralph Stanley, Rhonda Vincent and the Statler Brothers. He was known to be able to find someone to entertain the folks at Lewisburg Manor for any and every occasion and was excellent at always getting them fed even in emergency situations due to power outages.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leland Eugene Coursey, Sr. on July 22, 1990, his Mother, Rachel B. Coursey on October 25, 1993, and brother-in-law Paul Plecker on March 31, 2014.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Violet Harmon Coursey; stepdaughter Judy Looney Wilson and husband Richard of Mocksville, NC. Their 3 children Jody Wilson Kirby of Mocksville, NC and her 5 children, Richard Wilson Jr. and his wife Jody and 3 sons of Independence, VA, and Shelia Wilson Lambert and her husband, Brian and 2 sons of Mocksville, NC.; Stepson, John R. (Bob) Looney and his wife Dreama Davis Looney and 2 sons John R. Looney III and Paul Wayne Looney of Mineral, VA.; 2 sisters Jean Coursey Plecker of Bath Roanoke, VA and Sandra Coursey Wilfong of Lexington, VA; and several nieces.

In honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and in place of a traditional funeral service there will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 28th at Lewisburg Manor, 344 North Court Street, Lewisburg, WV, at 5:30p.m. His ashes will be buried with his parents at McClintic Cemetery in Bath County, VA.

Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV is in charge of arrangements.
