UNION, WV --- June Irene Sawyers Jennings, age 91, of Union, WV, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV. Born June 8, 1932 in Maitland, WV, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Mattie B. Johnson Sawyers. June was an amazing person. She never met a stranger, and she had a list of life accomplishments. She was a founding member of the Union Memorial Baptist Church in Union, WV, where she a Sunday School Teacher and was in the Ladies Aid Society helping with food baskets, mission support, etc. For the town of Union, she and Jr. was one the initial family memberships of the town pool. She was on the Board of Directors, a lifeguard, pool manager along with her late husband Junior serving as chief of maintenance officer. She was awarded a lifetime membership for her dedication and support. She helped in fundraising events as a Firemenette for the Union Community Volunteer Fire Department. She obtained her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at the Springfield Retirement Home and became the activity director at the home for several years until having to resign her position to take care of her husband who became terminally ill. She would later come back to volunteer there to offer assistance and support. June was also an Avon lady and she earned numerous awards for her selling abilities for more than a 30-year span. She contributed to fund raising and physically assisted donors as they participated in the donation process at the local blood mobile.  June was a volunteer fixture at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, working as many as four days weekly greeting visitors, escorting patients, delivering newspapers, and brightening patients' and visitors' days. Her volunteer span stretched over ten plus years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Louis Marion Jennings, Jr.; three brothers, and four sisters. June was the last one living of her siblings. Survivors include four children, James Jennings and wife Lisa of Greenville, WV, Marion Forrester and husband Jonathan of the Villages, FL, Richard Jennings and wife Shelby of Waiteville, WV, and Kimberly Basham and husband Mark of Vinton, VA; grandchildren, Angela Chernauskas and husband John of Union, WV, Brandon Jennings and wife Tina of Mishawaka, IN, Ryan Jennings of Greenville, WV, Jade Forrester of Marietta, GA, Louis Morgan and Ashley of Vinton, VA, Heather Kornegay and husband Justin of Raleigh, NC, and Emily Hylton and husband Josh of Roanoke, VA; great-grandchildren, AJ, Shannon, Maddie, Penelope June, and Avery; several nieces and nephews, and a devoted and loving friend for over 50 years, Linda Wilson of Union, WV.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
