UNION, WV – John W. Honaker, age 76, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. Born September 10, 1947, in Union, WV, he was the son of the late Marshall and Mary Edith Taylor Honaker.

John worked as an ad compositor, generating and arranging ads and columns for the Monroe Watchman for 61 years. He was a skilled rock worker, having completed rock work throughout the county for people's flowerbeds, homes, sidewalks, entrances, fireplaces, and even at the Confederate Monument in Union. He loved decorating for Christmas, as he took great pride in his Christmas tree and all of his lights every year. He was a member of the Turkey Federation who loved hunting and fishing. Additionally, he enjoyed gardening and hunting arrowheads and ginseng. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edison Honaker, Les Honaker, and Marvin Honaker. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Edna Ratliff Honaker of Union, WV; one daughter, Julie Ann Honaker-Dunn of Radford, VA; two grandchildren, Brady and Ashley; four great grandchildren, Alayna, Zayden, Kingston, and Jaylen; fifteen nephews and seventeen nieces; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.

Nephews Joe Wygal, Earl "Kojak" Wikle, Mark Jones, Bobby Honaker, Craig Honaker, and Michael Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
