Obituary

ROANOKE, VA --- John U. Brown, age 80, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Union and Lewisburg, WV passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at his home in Roanoke surrounded by family and friends. Born January 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Hazel Wallace Brown. John graduated From Union High School and attended Bluefield Business School. He was the owner of John U. Brown Trucking CO. of Union, WV for over forty years. He was a member of the Monroe Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M. at Union and the Union Lions Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Kitty Hager Brown; one son, Kenneth Brown; one sister, Nancy Brown Morgan. Survivors include his wife Pat Dixon Brown of Roanoke, VA; one son, Rusty Brown and wife Bev of Union, WV; one step-daughter, Lynn Burke of Goode, VA ; one step-son, Mark Perry of Renick, WV; nieces, Becky Keadle of Alderson, WV and Vicki Korte of Tallahassee, FL; special cousin, Nancy Sydnor of Richmond, VA; and "almost daughter", Cheryl Saher of Franklin, VA; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Allen Whitt, Rev. Melissa Shortridge, and Becky Keadle officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Union, WV. Friends may call Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. His wife would like to thank their neighbors of Muirfield Circle for their kindness, particularly, Barbara Smith and Robert Pickett. The family expresses that floral tributes are greatly appreciated, but would request that expressions of sympathy be made to a local food bank.
