UNION, WV --- Joan Carol Dunbar, age 63, of Union, WV passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2016 at her residence following a short illness. Born August 29, 1953 she was the daughter of the late Emerson George and Hazel Persinger Burns. Joan was a loving homemaker. She had worked in the restaurant industry as a cook and had also worked as a store clerk. Joan was affiliated with the Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Bostic and Marlene Nickells. Survivors include, her husband Jackie Edward Dunbar, Sr. of Union, WV; her children, Jackie Dunbar, Jr. and wife Sheila of Union, WV, Judy Carol Humphreys and husband Michael of Union, WV, and Joseph Wayne Dunbar and wife Rhonda of Ballard, WV; six brothers and sisters, Gertrude Tincher and husband Frank of Organ Cave, WV, Sheila Longanacre of Ft. Springs, WV, Brenda Burns of Alderson, WV, Betty Burns of Alderson, WV, Andrew Burns and wife Emma of Glace, WV, and Sylvia Highlander and husband Jerry of Alderson, WV; eight grandchildren, Jade Hefner, Jonathon Michael Dunbar, Jacy Thornton, Hope Dunbar, Brett Nester, Britt Nester, Little Joe Dunbar, and Cody Dunbar; five great-grandchildren, Jaylea Lindsey, Easton Thornton, Bentley Smearman, Branson Smearman, and Jazzmyne Lindsey.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Chris Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow in New Lebanon Cemetery at Pickaway, WV. Friends may call Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
