Jerry Wayne
Hoke
February 22, 1959 – October 28, 2022
UNION, WV --- Jerry Wayne Hoke, age 63, of Union, WV, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born February 22, 1959 in Greenbrier County, WV and was the son of the late Edward and Etta Spence Hoke. Jerry was a hard worker. He had previously worked as a ground's keeper at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV for 30 years, until his health wouldn't allow him to continue. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Jerry was a talented woodworker and blacksmith. He had a very creative mind, and he had a wealth of knowledge in so many ways. He made everything from banjos to knives to jewelry. Jerry was an excellent cook as well. He loved to come up with new recipes and he was always trying different ingredients to come up with something new and delicious for the family to try. He loved his family and friends dearly and will always be remembered for his love he showed to each of them. One word that his family would describe him as would be "selfless". He was a "give you the shirt off his back or the socks off of his feet" (this actually happened) kind of a person.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hilda Martin, Bernice Feury, Mildred Alderson, Shirley Boggs; one brother, Posie Hoke. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Dolores June Bostic Hoke of Union, WV; one son, Joseph Hoke and wife Molly of Rock Camp WV; one daughter, Madeline Washburn and husband Bryan of Illinois; three brothers, Carlos Lee Hoke and wife Rosemary of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Edward "Jr." Hoke and wife Theda of Lewisburg, WV, and Marshall Hoke of Renick, WV; three sisters, Sharon Clark of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Louise Feury and husband Marshall of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and Arlene Bunch of Maryland; four grandchildren, Jennings Walkup, Steven Walkup, Ande Sue Hoke, and Judd Wayne Hoke; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
In keeping with Jerry's wishes, he will be cremated, and the family will have a private gathering to honor his memory at a later date.
