Obituary

GAP MILLS, WV --- Jean Gilcrist Clarkson, age 76, of Gap Mills, WV, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Born December 13, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Ellen Wilson King. Jean had worked at the Halmode Sewing Factor in New Castle, VA and had also worked at the Andrew S. Rowan Nursing Home until its closing. She retired from the Brier Nursing Home in Ronceverte, WV, where she had worked as a kitchen aid. She was a member of the Gap Mills United Methodist Church at Gap Mills, WV. Jean loved her family dearly. She especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clarkson. Survivors include, her lifetime partner, Russell Kirk of Gap Mills, WV; two daughters, Peggy Jewell and husband Matt of Roanoke, VA, and Patricia Carter and husband Tim of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Ashley Duemmler and husband Kai of Raleigh, NC; Morgan Carter of Charlotte, NC, and Cierra McDaniel and husband Jared of Phoenix, AZ; one great-granddaughter, Aria McDaniel of Phoenix, AZ; special aunt, Etta Wilson; and special first cousin, Velma Bostic.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and out of love and respect for the family and friends, the services for Jean will be private and for immediate family only.
