SINKS GROVE, WV --- James Shelton Erskine, age 81, of Sinks Grove, WV, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. Jim was born September 2, 1940 to James Hampton Erskine and Maggie Snow Miller Erskine. Except for two years of Military duty in the U.S. Army, including   service in Vietnam, Jim spent his entire life at Sinks Grove, WV. Jim graduated from Union High School where he excelled in baseball, earning the nick name of "Ernie" as in Ernie Banks. He retired from Mountain International "Kid Truck" where he enjoyed his reputation as a big rig mechanic. He was also a gentleman farmer with the emphasis on gentleman. Jim was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church at Pickaway, WV, where he served in many capacities.

He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Virginia Frances Crone Erskine; sister, Patricia McCullum and her husband Ron; brother-in-law, Walter Crone; nine nieces and nephews, and an untold number of friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery at Sinks Grove, WV, where the WV Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 23. 2021 from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
