Ian Beirne
Dransfield
November 8, 1991 – December 8, 2022
GAP MILLS, WV --- The concerns of this world were lifted for Ian Beirne Dransfield on Thursday December 8, 2022 at his home and farm in Gap Mills, West Virginia. Ian was the son of Donald Wayne and Pamela Furrow Dransfield of Union, West Virginia, and brother to Devon Wesley and wife Maggie Earhart Dransfield of Greenville, Virginia. He is also survived by his God-Grandparents Wayne and Nancy Bostic and God-Brother Aaron Bostic of Union and his best friend and buddy; Bear.
He was preceded to his Heavenly home by his grandparents Beirne Virgil and Jean Walker Dransfield of Gap Mills, John McIlhaney and Barbara Long Furrow of Union, Great Grandparents Homer and Edith Long of Red Sulphur Springs, Fred and Alleen Furrow of Waiteville and his loving sister-in-law Dr. Mary Williams Dransfield of Greenville, Virginia. Ian so revered his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his intended Chelsea Cook of Sweet Chalybeate, VA and two dear uncles Charles Beirne Dransfield of Charleston and John David (Betty) Furrow of Waiteville, Cousin Brennan (Rebecca) Furrow of Pasadena, MD. Great Aunts and Uncles Judy and Earl Booth of Union, Linda and John Stimpson of Ballard, and Ana Furrow of Union. Included are his many close extended family near and far; Henry Ray and Ann Dransfield, Betty Dransfield, Karen Mitchell of Union, Steve Dransfield, Doug and Tracy Dransfield, Doris Ann Dransfield of Gap Mills, Nancy and Mike Potts of Purcellville, VA, Patti Rhea of Falling Waters, WV and Isabelle Holt of Murrells Inlet, SC; each of their families and an entire community of supportive friends, neighbors and his farming family.
Ian was born at Low Moor, Virginia on November 8, 1991 and grew up to love farming on his Pop Paw John's knee. He was a 2010 graduate of James Monroe High School and owner of a state baseball win, pitching the semi-final win in 2010 for the Mavericks as an All-Stater. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Agriculture and Applied Economics, minoring in Crop/Soil Science in 2014. He was on the Collegiate Beef Council and was a founding member of the Ag Economic Department's first "COINS" Investment Program. He served his colleagues at Tech as a Noble Ruler of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity with brothers he admired and held so dear. He was a 4-H Pin Wearer, earned his FFA State Farmers Degree in 2010, was adult volunteer serving both the 4-H camping program and as a 4-H Shooting Sports Shotgun instructor. He was a chief of the Seneca Tribe and developed his love of agriculture and livestock through the 4-H program and gained many close friends in the subsequent development of his cow calf herd and farming operation as owner and manager of Valley View Farm. Many will remember this congenial young man selling his home grown sweet corn and carving pumpkins to the public. His enjoyment beyond managing his farm was on the pool table as he admired the artful playing skill of his accomplished Great Uncle, Jim Walker.
He served various employers during his professional career. He cut his teeth with Larry Echols during his high school years being introduced to commercial beef management and operations. He interned with Murphey Brown Grains of Rose Hill North Carolina during his collegiate time. He worked as a sales representative for Mountaineer Farm Center in Union and ultimately as a Program Technician and Loan Officer Trainee with USDA/FSA in Monroe and Greenbrier Counties.
Ian was a loved member of the Union Presbyterian Church Family. He was the Treasurer of the Monroe County Cattlemen's Association. He was a young member of the WV Cattlemen's Association and the West Virginia Farm Bureau. He was always there to cook and slice beef for the public beef sandwich sales of 4-H and Cattlemen.
Ian was a friend to all and people recognized that immediately. He will be forever remembered by his smile and his charm. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
