UNION, WV --- Herman A. Lewis, Sr. of Union, WV passed away peacefully at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV on August 1, 2023 after a long illness. Born March 31, 1949 in Union, WV, Herman was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Patterson, and sister, Mary Patterson. He is survived by three brothers, Walter Patterson of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Carl Patterson of Union, WV, and James Patterson of Columbus, OH; one sister, Pricilla Patterson of Columbus, OH; his wife of 56 years, Carol Chapman Lewis of Union, WV; one daughter, Vanedra Mustain and husband Neel of Pickaway, WV; five sons, Herman Lewis, Jr. of Union, WV, Jeff Lewis and wife Chrystal of Peterstown, WV, Brian Lewis and wife Ruth of Union, WV, Avery Lewis of Union, WV, Corey Lewis and significant other, Katrina Wade of Union, WV; fifteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

Herman retired from Columbia Gas. He was a devoted member of the Union Church of God where he sang in the choir. He was a well-known basketball player and he loved sports of all kinds. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services to honor Herman Lewis's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the Union Church of God in Union, WV, with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Union, WV. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services at the church.
