ZENITH, WV --- Herbert E. "Herbie" Shires, 78, of Zenith, WV passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
He was born at Zenith, WV on May 6, 1938 the son of the late Clarence and Mabel Miller Shires.
Herbert graduated from Gap Mills High School as an Honor Student. He was active in sports, especially baseball. After high school he continued playing baseball for many years. He also loved hunting especially turkey hunting. Herbert was the Mayor of Zenith and he was also a trout farmer.
He was a member of the Valley Baptist Church at Zenith and the Carmel Church at Gap Mills.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Wilson Shires of Zenith; a sister, Violet J. Dunbar of Gap Mills; sister-in-law, Freda J. Wilson and companion Christopher Mohl of Hillsdale Road, Union; brother-in-law, Charles Wayne Wilson of Huntersville, NC.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Carmel Church at Gap Mills with Pastor Bill Keeney officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosier Cemetery at Zenith. Friends may call at the church from 10 AM until service time on Saturday, August 6, 2106.
