MARTINSVILLE, VA --- Helen Mae Clark, age 80, of Martinsville, VA, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital at Roanoke, VA following an extended illness. Born March 31, 1939 in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Ethel Leona Vandegrift Spence. Ms. Clark was a loving homemaker and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors. She loved her family and her nursing home family at Martinsville, VA.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior Spence, Rosco Spence, Henry Lee Spence, and Paul Vandegrift; three sisters, Glena Hoke, Ethel Deadman, and Virginia Alice Caldwell. Survivors include, one son, Wade Allen Clark of Collinsville, VA; two brothers, George Edwin Spence and wife Aggie of White Sulphur Springs, WV and James Vandegrift and wife Lanelle of Union, WV; three sisters, Shelva Wills of Lindside, WV, Rachel Marie Hoke of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and Betty White and husband Bill of Texas; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

In keeping with Ms. Clark's wishes she will be cremated, and a graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Spence Cemetery at Glace, WV.
