Obituary

Gladys Faye Walthall Hancock, age 86, of Union, WV, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at her son's home in Herndon, VA. She was born on July 18, 1937, in Creamery, WV, to the late Masil Glenn Walthall and Erma Laura McCallister Walthall, and was the wife of the late Charles E. Hancock, Jr. She was preceded in death by her son, Danny Wayne Epperley; and four sisters, Ruth Norene Pence, Doris L. Lilly, Anna M. Smith, and Lois E. Roles.

Over the years, Faye worked many jobs and did not retire until well into her 80s. To mention a few, she drove a school bus, transported and delivered food to seniors with MTA, and for many years worked at the Kalico Restaurant in Union.

She had a strong sense of community and had many friends in Monroe County and the surrounding areas. Often, she dedicated her time to the local dances and the area senior centers. She loved to dance and sing with both her church and her family members. We will miss her singing.

Faye had a strong love for the Lord. She played piano and sang with her church choir at Union Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member.

Survivors include her sons, Russell T. Epperley of Poca, WV, Stanley K. Epperley (Kathy) of Winchester, VA, Bryan W. Epperley (Wendy) of Herndon, VA, and Roger A. Epperley; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving and a special thanks, step-son Sandy Hancock (Shirley) of Pickaway, WV, who were always there when we could not be.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Rev. Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church Cemetery in Alderson, WV. Friends may call from 11:00AM until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
