Obituary

UNION, WV--- Gerald L. Crosier, age 82, of Union, Monroe County, WV, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA following a short illness. "Jerry" as he was known, was born December 11, 1933 at Union, WV. He was the son of retired Game Warden, Virgil "Cap" and Mabel Shaver Crosier. He graduated from Union High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources as a Conservation Officer at the rank of Sergeant, after 26 years of service. He served as past President of the Union Rotary Club, past Little League Coach of the Blue Sox, and was past Elder of the Union Presbyterian Church. He also served as President of the Monroe County Building Commission. Jerry served as Sheriff of Monroe County for eight years, then as Delegate in the 26th District of the WV House of Delegates for 10 years. While serving as a Delegate, Jerry received an award for his outstanding work in the legislature with Emergency Services in the state and secured funding for organizations in his district in excess of $2,000,000.00. In 2011, he was awarded Outstanding Democrat for Monroe County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hoover Crosier, Franklin Deland "Jack"Crosier, and Virgil L. Crosier, Jr.; two sisters, Virginia Dare Crosier and Juanita Crosier. Survivors include, his wife of 56 years, Margie Hanifin Crosier; two daughters, Erin Netzel and husband Norbert of Union, WV and Kelly Crosier of Union, WV; one son, Sean Crosier and wife Twila of Union, WV; three sisters, Jean Nichols of Union, WV, Shirley Neel and husband Jack of Union, WV, and Sandra Sue Parker and husband Dick of Stuarts Draft, VA; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Crosier and wife Mary of Grandview, WV and William "Bill" Crosier of Union, WV. Eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Union Presbyterian Church in Union, WV with Nancy Bulla and Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. A private burial will take place on the family farm. Friends may call Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV.
