GAP MILLS, WV --- Gerald "Jerry" Leon DeWeese, age 74, of Gap Mills, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at his residence. He was born December 3, 1948 in Gap Mills, WV to the late Carl and Phyllis Daughterty DeWeese. Jerry was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam as a Paratrooper and earning several distinguished medals including a Purple Heart. While Gap Mills was home, he lived for a while in California and in Florida before moving back to Monroe County for good. He had also worked as a Supervisor for the Orange and Indian River Counties in Florida, and also the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. Jerry also enjoyed scuba diving and surfing while he was in California. Above all, Jerry loved his family dearly and he also loved the Lord.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Hufham and husband Rob of Orlando, FL; one brother, Danny DeWeese and wife Anne of California; three sisters, Patty Stratton, Jacqueline DeWeese, and Sonja Chappell all of California; two grandchildren, Chase Marcone and Kendall Hufham of Orlando, FL; special cousins, Gary and Donna O'Neil and their three children, Michael O'Neil, Chris O'Neil, and Amy Dunbar.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Fairview Church Cemetery at Keenan, WV, with Pastor Ronnie Daugherty officiating.
