MOORESVILLE, NC --- George Lewis Pence, age 83, of Mooresville, NC, formerly of "Willow Bend", Union, WV, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC following a long illness. Born October 29, 1935 at Union, WV, he was the son of the late Thomas Johnson and Josie Cook Harvey Pence. George was a 1954 graduate of Union High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy. In 1986 he retired from sales with Bluegrass Electric in Ronceverte, WV. George was an avid outdoorsman and farmer. He enjoyed spending time at the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory. He loved his family dearly and was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Battlo; two brothers, Frank and Merl Pence; and one nephew, Larry Battlo Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years Alice Rita Isom Pence of Mooresville, NC; one son, Lorenzo Lewis Pence and wife Tina of Lewisburg, WV; one daughter, Karen Bonita Pence of Mooresville, NC; one brother, Wenzel Waymon Pence and wife Patty of Bluefield, WV; four grandchildren, Brandon Lewis Pence and wife Stephanie of Bexley, OH, Mickayla Elizabeth Pence of Lewisburg, WV, George Cameron Bostic of Mooresville, NC, and Courtney Elizabeth Bostic of Charlotte, NC; one great-grandchild, Sullivan Lewis Pence of Bexley, OH; nieces and nephews, Peggy Lambert, Terri Pennington, Patricia Matson, Thomas Pence, and Frankie Battlo; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Union, WV. Friends may call Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
