UNION, WV --- Gavin Boyce Copeland, age 67, of Union, WV, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV. Born September 1, 1955 in Princeton, WV, he was the son of the late Paul L. Copeland and Patricia Wills Copeland. He was a 1973 graduate of Union High School and a 1977 graduate of Concord College. Gavin was an educator for the Monroe County school system for 33 years, teaching 6th grade at Gap Mills Middle School and Mountain View Middle School. He also served as Girls' Basketball Coach while at the "Gap". He owned and operated Copeland Construction, was a realtor for Bradley's Real Estate, and mowed and maintained lawns in and around the Union area. Following his retirement from teaching, Gavin worked at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV. He was an avid hunter of deer, bear, racoons, and turkeys. Gavin attended the Union United Methodist Church in Union, WV.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Connie M. Copeland of Union, WV; two sons, Jared Copeland of Morgantown, WV, and Aaron Copeland and wife, Jamie, of Pawleys Island, SC; two sisters, Gleda Thomas and husband, Ralph, of Greenville, WV, and Gayla Adkins and husband, David, of Greenville, WV; two grandchildren, Graham and Parker Copeland of Pawleys Island, SC.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Reverend Dallas Forren and Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Union, WV. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
