UNION, WV --- Franklin Roosevelt Wilson, 85, of Union went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea. Born April 19, 1933, he was the son of Luther Allen Wilson and Early Deskins Wilson of Sinks Grove.
Franklin honorably and proudly served his country as a truck driver with the Army's 2 nd Armored Calvary 3 rd Battalion Unit in Germany from May 1953 until April 1955, earning a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Upon discharge, and returning home to Union, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma Persinger Wilson. Together they raised four children while Franklin continued to work as a truck driver for local feed companies until a medical disability ended his career. He was of Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, older brother James, and half-siblings, Bessie, Hazel, Ruth, Nina, Marshall, Robert, and Lacy "Doc" Wilson, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49yrs, Thelma who passed away in 2005. Those remaining to cherish his memory are sons Ronnie Wilson and wife, Betty of Sinks Grove and Danny Wilson and wife, Lorinda of Hollywood ; daughters Tambra Pitt and husband, Jonathan of Wolf Creek and Teresa Kennedy of the home; Grandchildren Missy McMillion and husband J.D, Lindsey Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Elijah Pitt, and Amanda Pitt; Great grandchildren Maddie McMillion and Tripp McMillion; sisters Eva Bouldin of Peterstown and Ruby Woodruff of Winston-Salem, and brother Luther Allen Wilson, Jr. of Sinks Grove, along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 8, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2: 00 pm at Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union with funeral service commencing at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. Pallbearers Tommy Bouldin, Vincent Wilson, Stony Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Matthew Wilson and Elijah Pitt will escort to burial New Lebanon Cemetery in Pickaway.
