Second Creek, WV --- Frances (Patsy) Anne Hicks Mustain passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 79 in Lewisburg, WV. Born in Newport News, VA on December 28, 1938, Pasty was the daughter of the late Charles Talmadge Hicks and Helen Putnum Hicks. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Hicks Maddie, brother-in-law, Marvin "Sonny" Farmer, and daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Mustain.
Patsy was a hard worker all her life. She began working during high school, where she held three different jobs at once. She worked at Colonial Stores Grocery, W.T. Grants Department Store as a typist, and as a switchboard operator at C&P Phone Company, where she continued working after graduation. She later completed her Licensed Practical Nursing Program, under the instruction of Ms. Katherine Relahan, whom greatly impacted her life. She went on to work at Andrew S. Rowan Nursing Home and Greenbrier Manor. Later in life, Patsy was a teacher's aide for Monroe County Schools, as well as co-owner of the Mustain Family Farm and Reed's Mill.
In addition to her many years of employment, Patsy also served as PTA President for Gap Mills Schools and was a member of the Retired School Personnel Association. In her most recent years, Patsy attended the Second Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church. Patsy enjoyed crafting and making special gifts for her loved ones. She was an avid reader and enjoyed country music. Above all, Patsy was a loving and very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory include her best friend and husband of nearly 61 years, Larry E. Mustain of Second Creek, WV; her sister, Rita Farmer of Richmond, VA; children, Larry Joe Mustain and wife Beth of Second Creek, WV, John F. Mustain and wife Lisa of Union, WV, Pat Mustain and wife Susie of Second Creek, WV, and David Mustain and wife Rose of Alvin, TX; additionally surviving are Patsy's 12 grandchildren, Elias Ofsa, Andrew Ofsa and wife Caitlyn, Jason Ballard and wife Cathrine, Judith Meadows and husband Andy, Leah Hylton and husband Jason, Clara Wimmer and husband Kipp, Amy Mustain and fiancé Brian Bills, John F. Mustain II and wife Brooklynn, Megan Mustain, Neel Mustain and wife Vanedra, Emily Atkins and husband Ernie, Matthew Mustain and Jacob Mustain and 26 great-grandchildren. She also had several nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Gene Fullen and Pastor Don Trent officiating. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills, WV. Friends may call Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will serve as Pallbearers.
