UNION, WV--- Ernest Lee Holland, age 84, of Union, WV passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Brier Nursing and Rehab Center, Fairlea, WV following a long illness. Born August 24, 1930 at Alderson, WV he was the son of the late Charlie and Eunice Holland. Mr. Holland was retired from the B.F. Goodrich plant in Union. He enjoyed spending time with his family in several ways including fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed raising chickens and playing around with his dog Jimbo and his cat Tiger. Mr. Holland was very talented in making canes and also growing flowers. He always kept beautiful flower gardens for everyone to enjoy. People would often stop at his house just to take pictures of his flowers. He also shared many of the flowers that he grew with his friends and family. Mr. Holland also attended the Lighthouse Church of God in Union.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Justice Allen Woods, one brother, Billy Joe Holland, and two sisters, Jean Lane and Emma Holland.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Fern Elaine Dunbar Holland of Union, WV; two daughters, Dreama Ward and husband Benny of Union, WV, and Karen Bailey of Lexington, NC; three granddaughters, DD Merson of Union, WV, Tammy Hepler of Roanoke, VA, and Missy Wallace of Lexington, NC; five great-grandchildren, Katelyn Merson, Brittany Woods, Jeffrey "L.J." Woods, Casey Campbell, and Colby Campbell; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special "Flea Market" friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Jimmy Allen and Fred Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery at Gates, WV. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Friends may call Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
