SWEET SPRINGS, WV --- Elmer C. Sams, Jr., 76, of Sweet Springs, WV passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea following a long illness.
He was born in Sweet Springs, West Virginia, December 14, 1940 a son of the late Elmer C. and Ruth Renee Baker Sams, Sr.
He was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc. at Covington, VA., a farmer and a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church at Sweet Springs.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Mae Bradley Sams.
Surviving are, a son, Jamie Sams and wife, Joy of White Sulphur Springs; 3 brothers, Alfred Sams of Sweet Springs, Charles Sams and his wife, Ramona of Sinks Grove, Mike Sams and his wife, Patti of Lewisburg; 1 sister, Barbara Sams Nicely of Troutville, Va., a grandson, Cole Sams of Charleston. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held 4 pm. Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gene Fullen and Rev. Mark Smearman officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery at Sweet Springs.
