Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Gorsuch nee Crone, widowed wife of Douglas Edward Gorsuch, passed away at home on the morning of May 17th, 2025.  Annie, as we knew her, has been described as Sweet by all those who have spoken to us about her.

Ann was born on September 14th, 1937, to Earl Michael Crone Sr. and Mary Ethelene Elizabeth Davis Crone.  Annie, along with her parents, brother Earl Michael Crone Jr, and sister Mary Francis Crone, lived on Sleepy Creek in Morgan County, WV until she left home to work in a clothing factory in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  After a short time there, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked for Western Union until she met and then married Doug on February 12th, 1972.  Thereafter she was an Air Force wife, staying in Washington DC while Doug went back to SEA, then moving with Doug to Altus AFB in Oklahoma, and finally to Simms Hill Road in Monroe County, West Virginia in 1974.

During her time on Simms Hill, Ann took various classes, such as welding and brick laying at the Monroe County Technical Center and received her Amateur Radio license so she could operate the radio station that she and Doug installed and maintained in their home for the benefit of the county.  Ann was an established cook and baker.  She and Doug were regulars at the County Assessor's office, where she often provided delicious meals and baked goods for the courthouse workers.

Ann, having no children of her own, is survived by several nephews and nieces. Her brother Earl and his wife Josephine Joanne Fritz Crone left nephews Danny Crone (Deanna) of Berkely Springs, Gerald (Cindy) Crone of Berkley Springs, Donald Crone of North Carolina, Mark Crone (Cheryl) of Arkansas, and Sam Crone of West Virginia. Her sister, Mary Francis Crone Rockwell and husband Bruce Lee Rockwell Sr. left nephews Bruce Lee Rockwell Jr. (Wendy) of Gladys, VA and Norvin Rockwell (Kathy) of Monroe, VA as well as nieces Sarah McCaskill (Kenneth) of Bethune, SC and Mary Lee (Allen) Lyman, SC.

Annie also leaves behind her devoted caregivers McKinzie Capaldo and Jillian Whatley, her dog Cassie, and special friends Amy and Harry Moloney.

A Remembrance will be held for Annie and Doug Gorsuch June 13th between 5:00 and 7:00 pm at the Union Senior Center, compliments of the American Legion, WV Post 100.

We all feel some pain of loss put there because of memories or emotions felt that we associate with some aspect of Anne. So, keep your good memories and emotions for Annie and add them to your 'happy thought' collection in this year of your life.
