GAP MILLS, WV --- Edward Austin Blankenship, age 78, of Gap Mills, WV passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA. Born February 9, 1940 at Beard, WV, he was the son of the late William and Daisy Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship never met a stranger. He was a truck driver and had retired from Lawrence Transport. He loved his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going on Sunday drives and attending square dances at the local Senior Citizen halls.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Anna Lee Thompson Blankenship. Survivors include one son, Lynn Blankenship and his girlfriend Jeannie Davis of Pembroke, VA; two daughters, Sherry Flack and husband Eddie of Union, WV and Beverly Blankenship of Newport, VA. Five grandchildren, Janice Blankenship, Christina Cliver, Brandon Scott, Nathan Blankenship, and Malachi Blankenship; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Keenan, WV. Friends may call Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
