Obituary

ROCK CAMP, WV --- Douglas Edward Gorsuch, age 84, of Rock Camp, WV, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at the V.A. Hospital in Beckley, WV.

Born March 30, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of the late Harold and Frances Bailey Gorsuch. Douglas proudly served his country, enlisting in the US Army to join the WWII Occupation forces in Germany during the early 1950's. He then served in the US Air Force, earning 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses during his several tours in Vietnam as a Flight Engineer on AC-119 Gunships. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974.

Doug was an active member of the AC-119 Gunship Association and the Air Commando Association. Here in West Virginia, he continued to serve as a member of the board at the Beckley, WV Veterans Administration hospital and as an active member and officer of the local and state VFW and American Legion units. Additionally, he taught various classes in the Monroe County public schools.

Doug had many interests including world-wide foods, Amateur Radio (HAM), military history, as well as gun collection and history; he liked to learn about, work on and repair old guns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Gorsuch. Surviving family members include, his loving wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Anne Crone Gorsuch of Rock Camp, WV; one brother, Gary Gorsuch of St. Louis, Missouri; one niece, Dawn Gorsuch Blunt and husband Kendall of Oakville, Missouri; and one great-niece, Adeline Blunt of Oakville, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV, with Rev. Robert Baer officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery where the WV Honor Guard along with the Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723 and WV American Legion Post 100 will conduct Military Honors. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:00 p.m.
