GAP MILLS, WV --- Dorsey Ray Galford, Sr., age 82, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Brier Nursing Home in Fairlea, WV. Born March 9, 1938 in Bolt, WV, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Bessie Kinner Galford. Dorsey retired from Monroe County Schools, as a bus driver with 31 years of accident free service. He also worked in the timber business for several years. He was a hard worker and was well known to drive his students to school on the bus each morning, following his morning run he would cut and haul timber the rest of the day until it was time to drive his bus route again in the evening. He loved his bus students and often if a snowstorm would hit and the bus couldn't make it, Dorsey would pile kids on the back of his truck and get them home safely. He also loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and he enjoyed hunting with his family. Dorsey was a member of the Gap Mills Church of the Nazarene at Gap Mills, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Galford; brother, Kenneth Galford; sister, Christine Jackson; and several other brothers and sisters. Survivors include three sons, Mike Galford and wife Donna of Gap Mills, WV, Dorsey R. Galford, II "J.R." of Jacksonville,NC and Brigid O'Hara of Alexandria, VA, and David Galford and companion Mary Ann Boone of Organ Cave, WV; brother, Ivan Galford of Gap Mills, WV and several other brothers; sisters, Lorene Hubbard of Sweet Springs, WV, Sandra Wiseman and husband Roger of Gap Mills, WV; and several other sisters; three grandchildren, Jeremy Galford of Union, WV, Chasity Robinson and husband Taylor of Princeton, WV, and Dorsey Ray Galford, III, "Ray" of Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Lacie Galford of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Kamden Galford of Kentucky, and Draken Galford of Gap Mills, WV; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clifford Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery at Gap Mills, WV. The Family will receive friends Friday, August 28, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Ivan Galford, Elvin Galford, Jim Ross, Jeremy Galford, Dorsey "Ray" Galford III, and Taylor Robertson will serve as Pallbearers. Due to the regulations associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic, and out of love and respect for the family, those wishing to attend the visitation and/or the funeral service, are requested to practice social distancing and wear a mask.
