UNION, WV--- Donald "Don" Gray Spangler, age 72, of Union, WV formally of Ballard, WV passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born January 20, 1942 at Ballard, WV he was the son of the late Gaston and Trusbie Canterbury Spangler. Don had worked several years at Radford Arsenal and Commonwealth Bolt. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Germany. He was a member of the National Guard and attended meetings with the Guard Unit in Hinton for several years. Don enjoyed hunting and anything to do with tractors, gardening, and farming. He was a member of the Red Sulphur Community Church at Red Sulphur, WV and currently attended The New Hope Tabernacle at Union, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brother-in-laws, Roscoe Caldwell and John McGraw.
Survivors include his loving wife Louise Dowdy Spangler of Union, WV; one daughter, Donna Jean Shaver and husband David of Peterstown, WV; Step-Children, James Dunbar and wife Linda of Union, WV, Chris Dunbar and wife Charlene of Keenan, WV, Roy Dunbar and wife Darlene of Willow Bend, Jack Dunbar and wife Joan of Gates, WV, Leonard Dunbar and wife Debbie of Ronceverte, WV, Carl Dunbar and wife Paula of Lindside, WV, Nancy Johnson and husband Dennis of Union, WV, Helen Trent of Union, WV Jessie Dunbar and wife Lori of Wolf Creek, WV, Betty Dunbar and Companion Bruce Perrine of Pickaway, WV, Mike Dunbar and wife Joy of Union, WV, Ernie Fleshman of Peterstown, WV, and Eddie Fleshman of Peterstown, WV; Three brothers, Retired U.S. Navy Captain, Ralph G. Spangler and wife Jewel of Peterstown, WV, Bennie Spangler and wife Brenda of Lewisburg, WV, and Jerry Spangler and wife Tammy of Ballard, WV; five sisters, Agnes Caldwell of Union, WV, Anna Jean McGraw of Ballard, WV, Evelyn Dunn and husband Carl of Ballard, WV, Eleanor Miller and husband Richard of Ballard, WV, Brenda Mann and husband Robert of Greenville, WV; several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; special life-long friend, Clarence Miller of Ballard, WV.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Joe Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV where the WV Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers.
