MAIDEN, NC – Donald Clem Shires, age 83, formerly of Waiteville, WV, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Charlotte Health and Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte, NC. Born April 24, 1940, in Zenith, WV, he was the son of the late Clem M. and Helen V. Trent Shires.

Donald worked as a brick mason and logger most of his life, and most recently worked in landscaping. He loved going to races, his chihuahua puppies, and the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting at his home in Waiteville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, May E. Harless Shires.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Jerold D. Shires of Denver, NC, and William M. "Billy" Shires of Charlotte, NC; three granddaughters, Deanna, Rebecca, and Natalie; and his companion, Caryl Elliott of Maiden, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the New Zion Union Church in Waiteville, WV, with Ken Cross officiating. Burial will follow at the New Zion Union Church Cemetery in Waiteville, WV.

Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Sunday at the church.
